Dr. Don Higginbotham

Senior Adult Pastor
Dr. Don Higginbotham

About Dr. Don:

Don is a native of San Antonio growing up on the south side. He attended Harlandale High School and Harlandale Baptist Church. As a young person, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout, played saxophone in the band, and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He served in the US Army from 1971-74.

He is married to the former Sue Goerges, a native of San Antonio as well. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated from the University of Texas in San Antonio with a major in early childhood education. She recently retired from 35 years of teaching children in private and public settings and has taught children’s Sunday School for over forty years.

Don and Sue have three married children and ten grandchildren.

God called Don into ministry as a teenager. He prepared for this ministry by attending Texas A&I University (BA) in Kingsville, UT in San Antonio (MA), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M. Div.) in Ft. Worth, and San Francisco Theological Seminary (D. Min.) in San Anselmo, California.

Brother Don focused on human sexuality in his dissertation challenging the young people of South Texas to develop a personal and Christian sexual ethic. These studies positioned him to be selected to the Governor’s Task Force on Teenage Sexuality and Pregnancy in the 1990’s and he currently serves as a premarital marriage counselor for “Twogether in Texas.”

He served the following Baptist churches in Texas: as a staff member at Mayfield Park while in the Army, full-time at Kirby, and Crossroads, and as senior pastor at First Pleasanton (10 yrs.), First Harlingen (11 yrs.), and First Fredericksburg (9 yrs.). Don retired from the pastorate after 42 years in Nov. 2013.

He enjoyed softball, tennis, racquetball, basketball, golf, and snow skiing for many years, but now it is pretty much golf and walking with Sue. Bro. Don loves building custom golf clubs and repairing clubs for friends. The Golf Club Makers of America recognized him as an Accredited Club Maker and he recently attained recognition by this organization as a Professional Club Maker.

Dr. Higginbotham, or Bro. Don as most folks call him, is excited about the possibilities of ministry to the senior adults in The Woodlands and surrounding area. When asked about serving the Lord though TWFBC Don responded, “Sue and I look forward to continuing the legacy of excellent senior adult ministry while working to develop exciting new opportunities of worship, fellowship, outreach, discipleship, and missions.
